Brett was born in Roosevelt, Utah and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from the Las Vegas Academy High School where he excelled in the trumpet. His talent led him to be the lead trumpet player in the jazz band and he also played several times on the Las Vegas strip while still in high school. After graduating from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, he taught at Gayville, SD School and several other schools before settling in Glasgow Montana and teaching at the Nashua school district. He had what is called perfect pitch which is a wonderful benefit to a musician. He also performed standup comedy and loved to make others laugh.
Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Jean Baker (Carrie). His father lives in Johnson City, Texas, his brother Marty in Winner, South Dakota, sister Sue Baker Shirey in Coronado, California, brother David in Austin, Texas, brother Jeff in Stockholm, Sweden.
He loved his students and coworkers in Nashua and will be missed by all who knew his big grin and beautiful music.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow, Montana with Pastor Mike Hammerly officiating.
