Charlotte W. Claypool

February 2, 1929 — April 18, 2018

Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28th, 2018 at the Hinsdale High School with inurnment in Hillview Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #45 in Hinsdale.

Charlotte Waber Claypool, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, 89, passed away peacefully into her Heavenly Father’s loving arms on April 18, 2018. Charlotte was born February 2, 1929 to Oswald and Nina Waber in Glasgow, Montana.

Charlotte was an only child, but had many stories about her adventures with her cousins and neighborhood friends. She graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1947. She then traveled to Minnesota to attend a business school. Upon returning to Hinsdale, she married Robert Claypool on March 21 st 1948, and they enjoyed 70 eventful years of marriage. To this union, three children were born, Diane, Jane and Duane.

Charlotte worked at the Hinsdale Post Office for several years, and then started a 30 year career with the Hinsdale school district as the clerk. She was dedicated to the financial structure of the school district and earned the praise of several superintendents and board members that worked with her at HHS. The successful final auditing of her “books” at the end of June was a cause for celebration each year. She also kept the books for the grocery store they owned and was treasurer for several local organizations.

Charlotte was a superb seamstress and volunteered countless hours as a 4-H leader teaching many young members how to sew. She designed her own wedding dress and sewed numerous prom dresses and clothes for her daughters. She also helped construct both of her daughter’s wedding dresses.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Hinsdale Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.  She was a former Worthy Matron and longtime treasurer of the Riverview Chapter of the order of Eastern Star. Both she and Bob were staunch supporters of the school and the town of Hinsdale. Whenever there was an all school reunion or 4 th of July activity, you would see them helping out selling tickets or fireworks.

Charlotte and Bob enjoyed their retirement to the fullest by traveling all over the United States, Europe, and cruising in Alaska and the Panama Canal. They wintered in Yuma Arizona for several years, enjoying the warm weather and making new friends. Charlotte never knew a stranger, because if you talked to her for just a few minutes, she would glean all of your personal history and be considered a friend by the end of the conversation. She also knew how to get strategic information from her grandchildren.

Charlotte’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a wonderful cook and so enjoyed hosting many Christmases for the family. No one could make turkey dressing or cinnamon rolls as delicious as grandma’s. She insisted that all Christmas gatherings had to include the annual family photo.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Robert, her three children Diane (Mark) Ball, Jane Frye (Mark Stiver), Duane (Laurie) Claypool; her grandchildren, Shawn (Mariah) Ball, Justin (Jamie) Ball, Jeremy (Marissa) Frye, Jason (Kristy) Frye, Bryan Claypool and Anna Claypool; her great- grandchildren are Brooke and Cade Ball, Logan, Colter, Taylor and Bridger Ball, Ethan and Kaleb Frye, McKinley and Piper Frye. She was preceded in death by her parents Oswald and Nina Waber and son-in-law, Jack Frye.
