Franklin Kummerfeldt passed peacefully on February 11, 2024, with his two children at his side.
Frank was born November 3, 1932, to William and Ossie (Jamison) Kummerfeldt on their homestead north of Nashua, Montana with friend and neighbor, Effie Brandt, as midwife.
He started farming and ranching at an early age progressing from plow horses to tractors as well as raising cows, pigs, and chickens.
Frank attended Bjorkland School, graduated from Nashua High School, and attended MSU during the winter term, while at MSU he attained his pilot’s license.
In the early 1950s, he traveled cross-country to visit friends and relatives in New York City. Another adventure took him south to Mexico.
Frank’s deep passions were farming, his antique cars, and flying. He enjoyed league bowling, hunting, boating, and water skiing. He was a long-standing member and office holder with the local elevator and Farmer’s Union/CHS.
Frank married Meredith Geer in April of 1961, by 1968 their family of four needed a bigger house so he built a new home and Frank, Meredith, Karyn, and Kurt moved in just in time for Christmas.
Frank continued to grow and expand his farm and love of flying. He bought a Cessna 182 and a small training airplane. After earning his instructor’s license he soloed a number of people in the community.
Frank and Meredith began to travel during the winter with their International Flying Farmer’s group, enjoying their time in Arizona, tours across the states and as far away as New Zealand.
In his later years, Frank met Lorraine Gabel, also an avid pilot. They spent their retirement time between Independence, Oregon, and Sun City, Arizona. After losing Lorraine to cancer in the Fall of 2019, Frank came full circle moving back to Glasgow and living at Prairie Ridge with friends and neighbors.
