Janet Weimer was born March 2, 1933, to Maye Dunn and Lawrence Davidson, the youngest of 7 children. Married at a young age and had 4 children, Susan, Paula, Mike and Ron, which have been the joy of her life. She also has 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She loved gardening and the 21 years of the Whatley Greenhouse and loved crocheting. We will have services this summer in Glasgow.
Jan wrote her own obituary, very simple and to the point, exactly how she lived her life. But she was so much more than that. She was very proud to be the youngest of 7 siblings and had many stories of her childhood to tell. She would travel back to Pennsylvania as often as her busy schedule would allow. She spent many years working at the Jonnie Café in Glasgow and running her Whatley Greenhouse. She worked the graveyard shift and was on top of all the patrons who came in from the bars and made so many wonderful ‘Rail’ friends in those years. When she was off work at the Café it was back home to tend to her Greenhouses. She enjoyed all her customers and Mother’s Day weekend as her busiest weekend. She was the go-to-gal for questions on all plants. She then became involved in Relay for Life and was one of the top sellers for Luminaries for many years, which she was very proud of. She also a weekly fixture at the Farmer’s Market selling her veggies and home-made Jellies. If all of this was not enough to keep her busy, Jan also decided to run for County Commissioner one year. Although she did not win the seat, she met wonderful people on her journey.
She was married to Jim Shirey and had 4 children who kept her busy. Susan Hobson of Denver, CO, Paula Stuller of Estero, FL, Mike (Kathy) Shirey of Lewistown, MT, and Ron (Shelly) of Oklahoma City, OK. After that marriage she me Russ Weimer and that began their venture to Montana, where they both fell in love with the area and purchased their home. Over the many years they took in grandchildren every summer at the ‘farm in Montana’. The grandchildren all have many wonderful memories of their visits to Montana. Jan valued every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also very close to her nieces and nephews.
Jan passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 in Brighton, CO at the home of her niece and nephew Bonnie and Mike Kolano.
Jan’s Family will celebrate her life this summer in Glasgow, MT with a memorial taking place on July 28 th , 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Bell Mortuary. A reception will follow at the Glasgow VFW.
