Marla Jan DeDobbeleer, 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital with her family by her side.
Marla Jan was born on November 17, 1943, in Glasgow, Montana to John and Thelma (Dascher) Maxness. She was the third oldest of four siblings. In her early years, Marla Jan was a tomboy, spending her time outdoors. She avoided anything domestic and followed her dad to the shop, rode horses and tractors, and played with pets and instigated many pranks that worried her parents. She had access to a chemistry set and managed to explode her soap making experiment all over the newly placed kitchen wallpaper. Her feral cat once walked across covered holiday pies that had to be fluffed once her mom stopped hollering. Her teen years were spent working summers on a ranch, along with her cousin Darlyne Dascher, working cows and riding horseback. She loved the freedom of being outdoors and getting work done which would last her a lifetime.
Marla Jan graduated from Glasgow High School in 1962. She attended college at Eastern Montana College in Billings and went to school in Denver, Colorado. On May 17, 1970, Donald and Marla Jan were married in Buffalo, Wyoming. Two children, Dana and Josh, were added to the family. Donnie and Marla Jan lived in Fort Peck, Montana until moving to the farm in 1978. This is where Marla Jan resided until June of 2022 when she moved to Valley View Nursing Home.
Marla Jan enjoyed refinishing old furniture and woodworking. She was very talented and created many heirlooms that include clocks, cribbage boards, serving trays and recipe boxes. Marla Jan was also a very good cook and loved hosting dinners and trying new recipes. This is something that she passed down to Josh.
Marla Jan was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Tessa, Addison, Ellery, Stella and Jed and one great-grandson, Carter.
A fond memory that Addy shared was when Grandma was at New Hope in Billings recovering from a stroke and the girls went with grandma to the cafeteria to get ice cream. Addy was pushing the wheelchair but let go of grandma as they were going down a ramp so that she could eat her ice cream. They caught grandma before she ran into the wall, and they all got a good laugh that day!
Marla Jan is preceded in death by her parents, John and Thelma, her brother Gordon and her husband, Donnie. She is survived by her daughter Dana and son-in-law Troy of Huntley, son Josh, of Glasgow: and grandchildren Tessa (Kasey) of Missoula, Addy, of Denver, Colorado, Ellery, Stella and Jed of Glasgow, Montana, and great-grandson, Carter of Missoula. She is also survived by her sisters Kathy and Darlene (Roy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place this spring and her ashes will be scattered on the farm. Memorials may be made to Valley View Home, 1225 Perry Lane, Glasgow, Montana 59230. Condolences may be left on line for the family at bellmortuarymontana.com.
