Peter F. Granada

April 16, 1935 — December 16, 2017

Peter Frederick Granada, 82, of Frazer, passed away in the arms of his wife, December 16, 2017 at Highgate Memory Care in Billings, Montana.

Pete was born in Glasgow, Montana, April 16, 1935, the only child of Fred (Fernando) and Dominica (Urreltz) Granada, immigrants of the Basque Pyrenees who were sheep and cattle ranchers.  Pete was raised on the family ranch on the Little Porcupine Creek north of Frazer and graduated in Frazer High School in 1953.  Pete attended Montana State College in Bozeman for one year before enlisting in the United States Army at Ft. Ord, California where he later served in a heavy artillery unit in Germany.  After an honorable discharge upon completion of his service, Pete re-entered college under the GI Bill, but quickly returned home to take over operation of the ranch with his mother when his father was unexpectedly killed in an accident in 1957.   In June of 1964, Pete married his one and only, Carol Elizabeth Uphaus, of the Glasgow area and together they raised Hereford cattle, hard red spring wheat, and two children.  Pete was gifted with calling his cattle and keeping them gentle and easy to work with.  Pete enjoyed walking the prairie and ranch in his later years.  When he reached the point he could no longer speak, His eyes would still light up when shown photos of his friends, family and grandchildren.

Pete is remembered as a wonderful husband and father, his gentle spirit and kind hazel eyes, a smart business mind, and having a reputation for always being the first to have his crop seeded in the spring.

Pete was blessed with and is survived by his wife, Carol, of over 53 years; one son, Gene Granada, of Frazer , MT; one daughter, Genna Granada, of Billings, MT; three grandchildren Dominica, Renee and Gabriel Granada; numerous cousins in France, Spain and California; and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
