Terry D. Palmer

November 13, 1934 — June 1, 2023

Terry Dean Palmer, 88 years of age, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, surrounded by his family. Terry was born on November 13, 1934 in Edmunds County, South Dakota on a farm to Kenneth Jordan Palmer and Viola “Toots” Fern (Augustine) Palmer.

Terry served in the US Air Force from November 17, 1953, through November 18, 1957, as a jet aircraft electrician. Terry was stationed in Great Falls while he served in the Air Force, and met his soon-to-be wife when he traveled with Marian’s brother Donnie back to Hinsdale. On January 18 th , 1958, Terry married Marian Ruth Nelson and through this union, they had 3 children, Rhonda Rae, Bradley Dean, and Kyle Scott. Terry also served in the Army National Guard from May 24 1980 through May 23, 1981, both of which he was honorably discharged from. Terry went to school at Myron Country School and graduated from Cresbard Consolidated School, Cresbard, South Dakota. He moved to Hinsdale shortly after serving in the military and remained there for the rest of his life.

Terry was a member of the American Legion, was on the Hinsdale Fire Board, and held various jobs throughout his life. For 21 ½ years, Terry was a mechanic, fieldman, and truck driver for Valley Implement in Glasgow. Lastly, Terry was a compressor operator for Williston Basin Pipeline for 16 ½ years. Terry was most proud of his time in the service and his work at the implement dealership.

Terry decided, after many dedicated years of working, that he was ready to retire at age of 66 ½ years, and got to enjoy his retirement for over 20 years. Terry filled his retirement with mechanic jobs, fishing year-round, and spending time with his family. Terry always made his family a priority and never missed a birthday or holiday. An important part of Terry’s life was traveling back to South Dakota where he could share the family farm and special memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Terry also enjoyed spending time in Landusky where he kept his camper year-round for fishing.

Terry is preceded in death by his father Kenneth J. Palmer, step-father Al Wolter, mother Viola Wolter, son Bradley Palmer, and step-sister Bea (Leo) Froelich.
